Welcome to the SCBScN program.

There are 120 credit hours in the SCBScN program, including 24 nursing courses and 9 non-nursing courses, including three electives. The program also provides you with 1,452 hours of scheduled clinical experience during your four-year program.

BIOL 110 – Human Anatomy & Physiology I (3 cr)
An introduction to the anatomy and normal functioning of the human body. The course takes a holistic approach to understanding and integrating anatomy and physiology in lecture.
**Restricted to Nursing students**

BIOL 111 – Human Anatomy & Physiology II (3 cr)
A continuation of BIOL 110. Further study of the anatomy and normal functioning of the human body, integrating anatomy and physiology in lecture.

CNUR 100 – Practice Education: Community Partnerships (3 cr)
This course will begin the focus on communication and collaboration in a service learning environment. Learners will have the opportunity to begin integration of values of social justice and of socio-environmental perspectives, particularly the influence of social determinants of health.
***Pre-requisite (can be taken concurrently): CNUR 102, INHS 100***

CNUR 101 – Practice Education: Stable Populations (3 cr)
This course will focus on holistic care in long term care settings. Learners will have the opportunity to develop beginning skills to participate in, support, and advocate for resident-directed care.
***Pre-requisite: CNUR 100, CNUR 102 ***
***Pre-requisites (can be taken concurrently): BIOL 111 or KIN 262, CNUR 103, CNUR 106***

CNUR 102 – Foundations of Care I: A Developing Professional (3 cr)
This course introduces concepts of understanding of self, interpersonal relationships, and communication in the context of caring environments. Learners will have the opportunity to develop beginning fundamental nursing skills including safety, self care and mobility according to professional standards.

CNUR 103 – Foundations of Care II: Professional Nursing (3 cr)
This course introduces the concept of primary health care, and continues the focus on health and the health care system as the basis for understanding the profession of nursing. Learners will have the opportunity to develop nursing skills necessary to practice in an interprofessional direct care environment.

CNUR 106 – Health & Education Across the Lifespan (3 cr)
The course will focus on concepts of growth and development that pertain to holistic nursing care of individuals throughout the lifespan, with emphasis on teaching and learning principles applicable to each developmental stage. Learners will have the opportunity to critically examine the learning needs of individuals at varying life stages.

CNUR 107 – Introduction to Health Assessment (3 cr)
This course will focus on basic health assessment of healthy individuals. Learners will have the opportunity to develop skills required to perform and document holistic and systematic assessments required for nursing practice.

***Pre-requisite: BIOL 111 or KIN 262 with a minimum grade of 60%***

ENGL 100 – Critical Reading and Writing I (3 cr)
This course develops student’s proficiency in critical reading and writing through the study of a wide range of non-literary and literary texts, and the study of composition, with emphasis on connections between modes of reading and writing.

INHS 100 – Introduction to Indigenous Health Studies 1 (3 cr)
Introduction to health science emphasizing Indigenous perspectives. Topics: history of health and health care, theories of health, personal health, consumerism, interpreting health information and statistics, health careers.
